Our History

Cameron Canvas was founded in Lonsdale, South Australia when two business people, John Scholz and Don Cameron decided there was a need for canvas products in the local area. Cameron Canvas first opened in 1978 with John Scholz taking over the company in 1985. The company has grown significantly since that time, gaining a reputation for excellence in manufacturing a wide range of canvas goods from blinds, annexes, awnings, tents and canopies.

In 1983, the first Cameron Camper trailer was built by John and his sons, Stuart and Bronte, taking advantage of their knowledge and expertise in the caravanning and camping industry. They understood the needs and requirements of exploring our amazing rugged country and strive to ensure that all Cameron Campers were Australian made, are of a superior quality and built tough with no compromise on features and comfort.

In 2002, Stuart founded Cameron Caravans in Edwardstown, South Australia and Bronte continues to manage Cameron Canvas and Cameron Campers, based in Lonsdale.

In 2003, Bronte saw a need for slide-on campers that has a much lower accessable bed and is easier to set up and pack up, and the Cameron Companion slide-on camper was designed to cater this need. Today, the Cameron Companion is manufactured in our factory at Lonsdale, has continually improved since its inception and now incorporates the easy to use concept tent top and the Cameron kitchen. The Cameron Companion is hugely popular with farmers, baby boomers, couples and the mining industry.

Being avid campers with a love of the outdoors, Bronte and his family are constantly testing, evolving and improving campers with a passion and vision to ensure that Cameron campers are easy to use and enable you to easily move and explore. Cameron campers are designed to be a home away from home with a comfortable accessible queen size bed, huge storage space and compartments. Its ease of operation and setup won't have you fearing packing up and moving on, easily enabling you to venture and explore the great outdoors. Cameron campers are also designed for people who find camping difficult; with its innovative design to make set up and pack up easier.

Cameron Campers offer a range of camper trailers to suit from the on road entry level to one with extreme heavy duty off road capabilities. We make it simple and easy for you to choose a camper for your requirements, with no nonsense names for our models, and allow you to pick and choose your own trailer and tent top. Each of our trailers can be modified, customised and upgraded, allowing you to start small and add to the setup gradually.
