Simple towing checks

Simple checks before you leave will make a big difference...

·         Check the equipment at the front of the towed vehicle – Is the coupling easy to get on and off the towball, does the jockey wheel move up and down and lock away into position freely, are the landing legs or corner steadies easy to engage and free of any damage with a secure base?

·         Check the brakes and suspension – are the brakes in good working condition, is there any sign of wear or damage on the suspension components, are the nuts and bolts, hangers and plates tight and secure?

·         Check your wheels and tyres – is there enough tread on the tyres and are they inflated correctly, are the wheels free from damage and all wheel nuts tight and secure, have you checked your wheel hubs and ensured all bearings are greased and in good working order?

·         Check your electrical components – are all your rear lights, side markers, indicators and reflectors in good condition and in working order, if you have electric brakes, have you made sure your electric brake controller is working and set correctly?
